Chapter Two: Unexpected Kisses

The most utterly shocking thing had just happened to me! Wang Zi had just asked me out. And I said YES. Sigh. I don’t even like him anymore but I didn’t want to turn him down and plus one little date won’t hurt, right? The plan was eat dinner, catch a movie and go home. In the beginning, everything was going along very well liked planned, the time when things got really shocking was when we arrived right at the gates of my house…

“Well, I had fun tonight,” Wang Zi spoke with a sweet smile and his fingers was fidgeting around.

I just nodded to agree. I wanted to walk straight inside but that would be rude. So before I did that, I bided him a good bye and was about to walk down the path to my doorstep. But Wang Zi immediately grabbed my hands and before I knew it, his lips smacked onto mine. Oh my god. Those were the three words that ran through my mind as my body froze. His eyes were closed as mine were wide open, and it lasted that way until 15 seconds after when he parted away.

“See you later Gui, night,” he flashed me a smile and turned toward his car and drove off.

Snap out of it. Gosh, I can’t believe he kissed me. I remember when I had my first kiss it made me blush but this time I’m rather stunned. Reluctantly, I went to my doorstep. Not wanting to go in, I just turned around and headed toward a different destination – the beach. A place where I love going, either to relax, calm myself down, or when I have problems. I would only go mainly if I had problems though.

When I arrived to the beach, someone was there. I know it’s a guy as his back actually looked familiar too. I guess he felt my presence or something because the guy turned to my direction. It was Aaron. Isn’t this wonderful, first going through a terrifying shock - well not that terrifying but whatever – and now seeing “Mr. Thinks-he-knows-it-all”. But tonight he seemed rather down, so I walked over to him.

“Hey, what are you doing here? Aren’t you suppose to be on your date?” he asked me curiously yet coldly.

Hmmm. How does he know I was on a date? Maybe Qiao Qiao or Wang Zi or Calvin told him.

“Wang Zi just brought me home but I wanted to come here, so yeah, you? Why are you here?”

“What? Guys aren’t allowed at the beach?” he questioned me but I stayed silent and shook my head. It’s weird how right now I feel so shy – quieter – around him when usually I’m louder. Then, Aaron continued, “We broke up.”

It shocked me to hear him say that, just too make sure I didn’t hear wrong I let out a soft “huh”.

“Reen and I broke up.”

Oh so I guess that’s why he seemed depressed. Half of me felt bad while the other half was relieved with a tint of happiness. Just to my curiosity I asked him ‘how’. I know it’s bad to be nosy but I really wanted to know.

“I hinted to her that I wanted to break up, since the past few days our relationship wasn’t going well. Then she told me she wanted to break up too, so there was when we officially ended,” he confessed.

“Then why do you seem so upset? You wanted to break up too didn’t you?”

“Yeah, I did,” Aaron replied in a matter-of-factly tone, “I’m not upset about that, I just saw something I didn’t want to see…”

I sat right beside him as my mouth formed an ‘O’. Hmmm. Wonder what he saw, actually better not ask, I’m already getting too nosy.

He started throwing rocks into the sea.

“You know, I find it better to scream,” I spoke with a vague smile, making his right brow cocked up as he looked at me.

I cooped my hands around my mouth and released a scream toward the sea. When I finished, I turned my head around to see him smile.

“It’s better to skip rocks, you won’t kill your voice or make someone deaf,” he smirked.

“Hey, I was just trying to make you feel better, why did you have to say that?” I was just trying to care for him but he had to destroy the mood!

But it really surprised me when he said, “Thanks.”

I couldn’t speak but just replied with a smile, I guess I did help him feel better? I don’t know why but my lips seemed to form into a big grin.

“I’ll bring you home, it’s getting late,” he suggested.

Wow, I can’t believe it’s already eleven. I nodded as we both stood up.

We were walking back to my house; we didn’t even spoke one word to each other so far. It’s actually pretty awkward, I mean when were close to each other there is usually something to talk about or at least to quarrel about. I guess I wasn’t really paying attention as we were walking down the crosswalk, for it had changed from the walk sign to the stop sign. But I hadn’t notice and kept on walking while a car was speeding down the street. But on good timing Aaron had pulled me back in time so I didn’t get ran over. Maybe he pulled to hard but my lips ended up landing on his chin, very close to his lips, my eyes widen as I immediately pulled back.

“Sorry! Thanks for helping me though,” my head was tilted down, not wanting to make eye contact. But I think he turned his head also. “Umm, I think I can leave from here, I mean, my house is only a block away from here.”

“Uh, yeah, well see ya later.”

“Bye,” I replied quickly and hurried walking back home trying to forget what happened. Oh boy, what an embarrassment!
